My priorities in the Municipal Council and the Regional Council:

I am Tawar Salari, a midwife, nurse, and master’s student in health sciences. I have extensive experience in various organizational trust positions. Currently, I serve at the national level as the Vice Chair of Demarinaiset and as an alternate member of the Turku City Health and Well-being Board.

Everything can be done more fairly! My key election themes are well-being, equality, and a everyday safety. I believe that everyone deserves to live a dignified life, regardless of their background, financial situation or health. I have worked concretely on these themes, and now I want to advance them in politics as well. These are not just words but practical measures to build a more just and humane society.

An Equal Tomorrow

Preventing racism at all levels is crucial for promoting equality and justice. It is essential to uphold everyone’s rights and create environments where people feel valued and respected. In multicultural Turku, combating racism at all levels fosters inclusion and community cohesion.

Schools and daycare centers need more resources to maintain high-quality education and ensure that all children have equal opportunities to develop. This supports social justice and helps prevent marginalization. Additionally, school and daycare facilities must provide a healthy environment for children, meaning that no child should have to breathe mold every day in their school or daycare. Sufficient funding for schools and daycare centers is essential for the city’s future.

A Safe Everyday Life

Breaking down residential segregation is key to building a just and safe society. Segregated neighborhoods can lead to social problems and inequality. The lack of affordable housing, particularly family apartments, must be addressed. At the same time, it is essential to develop all areas to foster community spirit and ensure good living conditions and services for all residents, regardless of their neighborhood. Investing in affordable housing and preventing segregation can create safe and vibrant neighborhoods for everyone.

Safety also comes when everyone follows the same rules. Successful integration is the first step toward a secure everyday life.

A Healthy Turku

Developing parks, outdoor trails, and local sports facilities, along with ensuring accessible and affordable sports services, is essential for promoting public health and well-being. Improving public transportation is also necessary to make mobility easy and affordable.

The well-being of young people is critical to Turku’s future. When promoting well-being, we must not forget children’s and youth services, which enhance well-being and particularly support young people’s mental health. All preventive work is the key to lasting well-being.

Quick Access to Healthcare

One of my primary goals is to speed up access to healthcare. Too many people are forced to wait unreasonably long for treatment, which has serious consequences for both individual health and the functionality and costs of society. It is essential to ensure that everyone receives the care they need without inhumane waiting times. Resources for health centers and other medical facilities must be significantly increased. When basic services function efficiently, we can avoid unnecessary emergency visits and reduce congestion. This also helps save resources.

Care and Prevention

Elderly care is crucial, as an aging population requires dignified treatment. At the same time, we must support the well-being of family caregivers, who play a significant and essential role in our society. By family caregivers, I mean all caregivers, including those who care for children.

The mental health crisis also demands resources and preventive measures, which is why cuts to basic services must be opposed in every way possible. More healthcare facilities and more personnel are needed. Additionally, we must allocate resources to the trusted third sector, which provides a wide range of services and preventive care. I have worked with these organizations for years in various ways and have witnessed the massive positive changes they create in people’s lives. Furthermore, we need investments that secure well-being for everyone, both now and in the future.

Equal Services for All and Good Working Conditions for Healthcare Personnel

Everyone must have equal access to quality healthcare in a timely manner, regardless of their location, socioeconomic background, or minority status. The welfare region needs fair, accessible, and well-functioning services that operate smoothly and equitably. This is especially crucial in areas where health disparities can be significant.

To achieve this, we must invest in healthcare personnel, who are the backbone of the healthcare system. Their well-being, salaries, and working conditions are key to ensuring a functional healthcare system. Without addressing these issues, the shortage of nurses will worsen, and the quality of services will decline.
